AMAA’s “Shogh” Community-Based Day Center, located in Yerevan’s Nor Nork 7th District, is relocating to AMAA’s Khoren and Shushanik Avedisian School in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district after 13 years of service to the community.
This move was necessitated by the requirement to return the state-owned premises currently occupied by the center and to ensure a long-term solution to the center’s perpetuity.
Since its establishment in 2012, the “Shogh” Center has provided comprehensive services to hundreds of school-aged children. Throughout the years, it has collaborated closely with local authorities, schools, child protection agencies, and families to ensure a safe, supportive environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive.
For over a decade, the center has played a vital role in the Nor Nork community, offering educational, psychological, and developmental support that has significantly contributed to the well-being and growth of its beneficiaries.
A New Approach: Transforming the School into a Community Hub
Leveraging this relocation, as part of a new community-centered development strategy, AMAA decided to launch a pilot program that consolidates its various services under the umbrella of the Avedisian School. This initiative aims to transform the school into a fully integrated community hub offering comprehensive support across education, healthcare, culture, and social development—serving both students and the wider community.
1. School-Based Health Center
The school-based health center will offer essential healthcare services to students, their families, and vulnerable members of the surrounding community, ensuring access to affordable, high-quality medical care.
2. “Shogh” Day Center
Now relocated to the Avedisian School campus, the “Shogh” Day Center will continue serving vulnerable children and families—both within the school and in the broader community. It will provide psychosocial support, art therapy, personal development programs, parenting skills workshops, and recreational activities.
Scaling the Model Across Armenia
This pilot project not only expands the Avedisian School’s capabilities but also strengthens AMAA’s long-term vision to establish similar model schools and community centers in other regions of Armenia.
