Haigazian University Publishes Book on ‘Armenians of the Gulf Arab States’

The Haigazian University-based Armenian Diaspora Research Center has published a conference proceeding on “Armenians in the Arab Gulf States,” which was held in December 2022.

In its Appendix section, the book includes the personal accounts/memoirs of the life and experiences of Dr. Boghos Atinian, Anni Barsoumian, Dikran Djinbashian, Hagop Kazandjian, Kevork Keoshgerian and Giragos Kouyoumdjian in the UAE, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. It also includes interviews with Vasil Akelian, Berdjuhi Aprahamian, ex-Member of Parliament and Minister Apraham Dedeyan, and Hrayr Sarkissian about their economic activities in Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

The book includes a brief report on the Armenians of Kuwait in 1961, newspaper excerpts between the years 1950 to 1965, the by-laws of the Armenian Community of Abu Dhabi,  a bibliography, short biographies of the contributors, a brief account of the Armenian communities of the Arab Gulf states, a short narrative of the history of these states, the press release of the conference, the content of the book in Arabic and English, and the HU Press list of its published books.

The book is the 7th volume of the proceedings of conferences that have focused on the Armenians of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt-Sudan-Ethiopia, Cyprus-Greece and the Arab Gulf States. The last and the 8th volume on Armenians of Cyprus and Greece is scheduled to be published in 2025.
