Last night, Aranoush Shirajian Yeretsian passed away in Rhode Island at the age of 101.
Aranoush was the daughter of Rev. Aharon Shirajian, whose extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment to saving lives during the Armenian Genocide I documented in The Resistance Network. Rev. Shirajian graces the cover of the book — a tribute to his enduring legacy. Aranoush herself carried forward that legacy with quiet strength and remarkable resilience.
A few years ago, I had the honor of paying tribute to Rev. Shirajian in front of Aranoush and her family. Sharing that moment with her — surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and the Rhode Island community — remains one of the most moving experiences of my life.
As we remember Aranoush today, we also honor a living bridge to a generation that endured unimaginable loss yet chose dignity and resistance.
May we learn from their example.
